Event
Germans' behaviour in Tientsin.
German Dominican Mission in Fukien, a letter from whom is published in the "Koelnische Volkszeitung" of May 6th, 1915, states that they are fortunate in possessing an excellent telegraphic connection in China both by wireless and ordinary telegraph, through which they receive almost daily true news from the Theatre of Var.
Referring to N.I.'s remarks of the 14th on Germans proceeding to Germany via U.S.A., a hitch appears to have occurred in the despatch of the second batch by the "Siberia", the steamer being detained 24 hours at a cost of $1,500 gold to enable the German Consul to cable the Ambassador at Washington informing him that it was imperative that they should sɛil in spite of a telegram received from the Ambassador to the effect that it was unwise to send them. The latter agreed and they sailed.
Von Fappenheim, sea note of the 11th, according to information
received it is probably correct that he escaped from Mongolia and sailed under an assumed name on the "Korea".
Sino-Japanese agreement. Continued agitation in and around
Shanghai against the signing of the agreement, sternly suppressed by Admiral Tseng: several arresta made both in and out of the International settlement.
The papers state there is a report current in Peking that another lot of Germans in disguise, charged with some special mission, have left Peking for Easter Mongolia via South Manchuria.
